Hypermilling – Saving Fuel

Better roads

All roads lead to Rome.
Bumpy, twisty, poorly maintained and hilly roads lead to increased fuel consumption and extra wear and tear on yuor car. Great if you are avoiding a huge traffic jam but saving a few mins on a journey by driving through a forest special stage, on gravel, is going to cost you a lot more fuel than a nice sensible route which enables you to bring your hypermilling techniques into play.
You can’t use cruise control on roads like this without crashing so every time you go over a bump your right foot moves. Its almost impossible not to do this. So you are opening and closing the throttle without need, using more fuel.
Gravel roads and ones with broken surfaces prevent the car transmitting all its engery into forward motions as the tyres simple and try and grip.
Twisty roads are great fun in the right car, but in an average family barge its a case of massive braking to get the thing round the corner followed by acceleration to the next corner. Very hilly roads can have the same issue – you are straining to get up the hill followed by braking on the way down to try and avoid ending up in a field.
Your car could be using almost twice as much fuel in conditions like this so is that shortcut really any sort of saving at all?
Hypermilling.co.uk is simply a small website about hypermilling – hypermilling techniques wll be listed and explained, news about hypermilling listed and links off to useful hypermilling resources.
Remember – being safe is more important than miles per gallon and even a small bump will totally negate any savings made by hypermilling.
You should always make sure your car is totally road legal and your car insurance is up to date, if you have any doubt contact your car insurance company.
